This is about how to find information about exhibitions, shows, performances, festivals, fetes, awards, meetings, dates, venues, ticketings, bookings, itineraries...in the past, the present, and in the future.

Open and direct databases similar to ADU's "Event Calendar" are useful to users with "emergency" last-minute information about changed schedules, cancellations, lectures, tours, workshops, visitors, vacancies, classes, courses, openings, invitations, transport alternatives, bookings, discounts...as well as commercial promotions...Art sales / Auctions...new products...reminders for up-coming prizes / scholarships...
comments...and contact. There are many ways to use this calendar.

GO:

......to start ANY KIND OF Search of ADU's databases,
click on the "Search ADU" link on any page. In this tutorial, we've done so on the front or 'Home page' of the site. This takes you to........

  • ....the "Search Selection page". Here you select the KIND of Search that you want to make. Only two of the selectables on this page concern us.."Arts Events" and "What's on..and When"...two ways of searching the same database.

  • Click on "ARTS EVENTS". This takes you to.....

  • Note: selecting "ARTS EVENTS" searches the database by country and category for an event on a particular date.

  • Note: selecting "WHAT'S ON .. AND WHEN", allows a Country and Category search by date from today...this can bring up a result of everything that hasn't happened yet, everything that hasn't happened yet in a particular country, everything that hasn't happened yet in a particular state, town....then the same searches can be made in any of the categories!
Then you can do the same searches in reverse...into the past...ADU's Event Calendar Archive.

  • ....the "ARTS EVENTS" page. The "Country" text box becomes a "drop-down menu" when it is clicked...now click the country of your choice...make this New Zealand...

  • Note: the TAB key, Text Boxes (Text Fields):

If you are not using your keyboard's TAB key to cycle through text boxes as a computer habit, then start practising now. You need to use this action confidently when entering data in any Website containing boxes / fields...it saves time.

The TAB button moves your entry point to the next box every time it is hit...line by line. If, as in ADU, there are entry boxes larger than one line...then you must use your mouse to select (click on) the next text box in order to use it. A text box with more than 1line stops the TAB cycle...selecting the next text box starts the cycle from there.

  • .... Select the "Search Category" in the same way, by clicking the next box and then "Exhibition" on the drop-down menu that appears.

  • Your search is narrowed to ALL exhibitions in New Zealand...but when, and where?

  • Minimise what you type into the text fields.

  • Start with just the first letter in one or more fields.

  • In this case we have found 3 exhibitions in Christchurch, New Zealand.

  • Clicking the underlined link in the middle column of the page, wil take you to the ADU "Detail" page for that particular record.

  • You can use the final text box to search for events that are on any one day.

  • IMPORTANT: you must use the correct date format:
    2 digits for the day,
2 digits for the month, and
4 digits for the year, with

    a forward stroke between each.
    No spaces.

  • You can ALSO search for events by clicking on
    "WHAT'S ON .. AND WHEN"...
    on the
    "Search Selection page".

  • You can select a "Category" and "Country" from the drop down lists, including the blank selection.

  • You don't need to enter anything in the text fields of "Town" and "Nearest Town". If necessary, enter the first letter or two.

  • You will have to select either the "past" or the "future" which is measured from the current day...TODAY.
