Quicklinks is a "short-cut" search for those in a hurry...it has no read-out on ADU's front page, just the orange link "QUICK LINKS"....it appears on all the other pages, and clicking on the link takes you to a page with ADU Database links on the left, and on the right four columns of the same four words NEWS, CALENDAR, FORMS and SHOWCASE for business entries, and PROJECTS, CV, WHAT'S NEW , SHOWCASE for Arts individuals. These are direct links to pages in external Websites...when you click one of these, you leave ADU...but it's not far away. All four of them may not be present for some entries.

So the people using "Quicklinks" aren't interested in looking at the whole site but at those aspects of a site that are often changed...up-dated. ADU allows them to go directly to the page in an external site to get news or to contact.
Clicking on the "Search ADU" link anywhere will take you to the "Search Selection" page for the same result...but adds a step.

GO:

......for the quickest search of ADU's "Quicklinked" sites and pages,
click on the "QUICK LINKS" link on any page or the two Quicklinks / Showcase" links on the Homepage. In this tutorial, we've done so on the front or "Home" page of the site. This takes you to........

  • ....the top of one of two lists of the most recently added / updated "Quicklinks"entries. As with ADU's front page, the top-most entry is the most recently modified or submitted record. These are not sorted in any other way...all categories and countries are mixed. you can do a speed-browse here.

  • Note: the two lists...one for business and one for individuals are identical in layout except for the link titles. IMPORTANT: you can toggle between the two pages.
  • Note: going "left" on "Quicklink" pages will display the ADU Database entry for the selected site...you can also use "Quicklinks" and "Showcase" from within that record, as well as access all the other "Contact" details concernng it.

  • but the main reason for Quicklinks is to get to the "nitty gritty" ASAP...so click on the "Search Quicklinks" link. This takes you to.....

  • Note: ASAP are the initials of the phrase..."as soon as possible".

  • ... the "Search Quicklinks" page. This has two text boxes...both enabled by drop-down menus, one for selecting "Nation", the other for "Main Category".

  • Note: the more expert user will come directly to this page using it's unique URL:

    http://www.artsdownunder.com/aduhtml/quicksearch.html

Copy this URL and paste it to your Arts Management Folder along with ADU's Web Address, it's E-mail Address, (and your ID number if you are a contributor to ADU's main Arts Databases). Read the other Tutorials to better understand the value of creating a dedicated Arts management folder. Your Browser will already allow you to build a list of "favourite" addresses, but try building and managing your own.
    How it works:
Start an on-line session by opening your Arts Management folder and your Browser...Copy and paste the URL from your management folder into the Browser's Address bar and go...straight to this page without even loading ADU's front page...select Nation and Main Category...click the "Find Records" button and take it from there.

  • Note: an "URL" is a web-page address, it is an acronym derived from the initials of the phrase "Universal Resource Locator"...just another way of saying "address".
An acronym is a set of initials that have evolved into a word...and have been accepted into the world of meaning...NASA is another..NSW isn't.

  • ...select "New Zealand"...

  • ...select "Galleries"...

  • ...now click the "Find Records" button...this takes you to.....

  • ... the "Quicklinks" search result page...displayed are the galleries with "Quicklinks" to their most often up-dated pages...click on the CALENDAR link for City Gallery Wellington to test your efforts.

  • On the right of the page are four links to pages within an external web site. These links will open pages in new windows. To get back to ADU, close the windows of the external sites. This "QuickLinks / Showcase" page will still be open to allow you to make new choices.

  • The list on the left of the page will take you to the detailed record concerning Wellington Gallery in the Artsdownunder Database. On that page you'll also have the same set of QuickLinks...including "Showcase".

  • To return to ADU for a new "QuickLinks / Showcase" search, click your Browser's "Back" button.
