- Now
you are ready to proceed...ready to
choose a particular tutorial...ADU
suggests that you carry out a Search of the database... the best
place to start is the simplest search...termed here "BROWSE"
- ...so
click on the "Search ADU" link
at the top of the Home page
(the big black left page)...
|
|
|
|

|
- ...the
red "Search Selection" page replaces the black
Home page and half-overlaps the green tutorial page on the right.
Click on the left and it comes to the front...click on the right and
it comes to the front...doing this is called "toggling"
between items. The front or
top page is the active one...where you are working at any time.
- ...now
you can choose the KIND of search to be made...click on "Arts
Individual", and another red page takes its place.
WE
WON'T GO ANY FURTHER INTO BROWSING THE DATABASE THAN THIS...
this is a tutorial about BECOMING FAMILIAR WITH SETTING-UP FOR ALL TUTORIALS.
The Browsing tutorial comes next...don't add to any text boxes...yet...
|
| |
|
 |
- Note:
you should always have half
of each page in view. Observe that the monitor screen
is divided into three areas by the overlap:
- the
actual page of ADU on the left (where you will be entering
or editing records) is structured so that text boxes will always be
in view even when toggling...use the left hand page bottom margin
scroll bar to center and organise for this...optimise.
- the
screenshots are in the middle and are in view or hidden, depending
on toggling.
- the
tutorial steps, notes, and hints are always in view on the
right, even after toggling...and conveniently
close to the right margin scroll-bar.
|
| |
|
 |
- YOUR
NEXT STEP WOULD BE
to click
on the "Search" Tutorial link at the top of
this Tutorial page (the green right page)...BUT...if
you do you'll replace what's left of this tutorial with the "Search"
tutorial and the notes below would become inaccessible...there is a
way around this as you will soon see... but for
now, just READ ON as if you've taken this step...
|
| |
|
 |
- ...the
"Search" Tutorial replaces the "Tutorial" Tutorial.
Now you can scroll down so that the instructions and screenshots
are opposite the place on the "Search" page where you want
to start, or where you want to revise from...
- Note:
you can use the tutorials any time
while working with ADU...just open the second window as reference
for your actions, and follow the pink
steps and yellow explanations.
- Note:
when you submit data to ADU you will receive
an ID number if you complete the submission.
You will be included in the Databases. So write down the number when
it appears...it will allow you access to your records so that you can
EDIT OR DELETE. Please manage your entry...use
the number to delete your efforts if it is a practise submission.
- Note:
submissions to Much ADU and Visitors
Book cannot be edited once submitted...they
do not supply you with post-session editing possibilities. If you need
to have a submission to either of these deleted (embarrassment, sorrow,
privacy) send an E-mail to ADU...otherwise everything is archived.

|
| |
- ...toggling
between screenshots and work area as needed...but
a FINAL
SET-UP STEP is necessary
because four tutorials are much longer than the others ... some of the
tutorials are one page long, some are two, one is three...reflecting
the degree of complexity.
Reason: rather than have the larger files slow-up
the process, we've set ourselves a file size limit of just under 300
Kb per page, and divided
the pages accordingly. This
increases the total tutorial page number, but makes each page faster
to load, with each page taking about the same time to appear.
How can you make this manageable?...
.....OPEN YET ANOTHER PAGE IN YOUR BROWSER.
To have 2 or 3 (or more) tutorial windows open on the desktop at the
same time, "Right-click"
the links to the next page (the "Go to Page 1" link below)
and select "Open in NEW window"
from the drop-down list that will appear...(or use "Control-click"
for Mac users). Line the extra page up under the first, and off-set
it enough to be able to toggle between the three...same rule as above
applies for keeping scroll-bars visible.
For more notes on file size and time, check
the "Showcase"
tutorial and visit the "General
Notes" of "About ADU" after completing this
tutorial.
- Note:
"Right-clicking"
or "Control-clicking" ANY
Internet link will offer the same choice-list...open
as many pages as you need...but you'll find there are limits.
You can open the same page many times also...if you get "lost",
clicking on "Window" will list
what's open...keep
track of what's happening.
- Note:
revision:
when you click the "Tutorial" link on any ADU page,
you will come to page 1 of this tutorial about tutorials.
Then you make your choice by clicking one of the remaining 11 tutorials
at the top of that page...or the bottom of this page.
END TUTORIAL...how would you re-set
the desktop?...

RAM: is short for
Random Access
Memory.
This is the measure of a computer's temporary
memory...it holds data that is in use...what you are working
with. To have several pages open on your desktop
is a burden to RAM, and will slow-down processing time. If your computer
runs slowly, it's because it's being made to do too much. (If you Browser
runs slowly, the file it's accessing is too large, and /
or the net and your physical links to it are overtaxed or damaged
in some way...it's external and not your fault).
ROM: is short for Read
Only Memory.
Computer memory that cannot be modified...it runs
things the way they must be run, and doesn't forget...unless.....
You can increase a computer's RAM and ROM...Why would you?

NEXT
TUTORIAL: to work through another tutorial,
make a selection from the links below and click on the "Search
ADU" link on the left page...in this case the red search page,
and then click "BROWSE ADU". It will change to. Realise that
you can leave this tutorial open as reference to the next by
once more "Right-clicking" or "Control-clicking"
the tutorial link of your choice...you could have
five pages open...so practise your desktop management.
