But What About You?
===================================

Her children are slowly dying,
Others, twenty seven or so, are dead,
How can she cope, in a camp without hope,
Where all are being poisoned by lead?

Not all dying are young, though young enough,
Vekbi, at 26 yars, is but one name,
His surname I cannot remember,
For safety, and to live, to this camp he came...

Surviced by his three kids,
His wife is six months gone with child,
His brother too now sick, maybe he'll also die,
Through their greif and their tears theyve smiled...

Some no longer believe in God,
If God was good, how could this be?
Some still believe throiugh blind faith,
Without faith, no hope or future can they see.

And in the midst of all this suffering,
This grave injustice that they see,
One woman called Ferdana says "What about you who bring us aid?
I worry you've lead laden blood too."

**************************

The Roma of the Mitrovica camps are still suffering the
effects of the lead poisoning, and reading through "UNleaded Blood"
by Paul POlansky, I came upon the touching words of a woman
Ferdana, who though she was losing her family slowly, still had
the grace to tell Polansky she worried the reporters and aid
workers who flew in and flew out would suffer from the lead too.
Such compassion for others in the face of such adversity... my
prayer tonight and today is let me have the grace of Ferdana...

Innocents
===================================

There are those the world calls innocent
Lost their homes, towns, lives, lost all,
Poor Albanians, fighting viscios Serbs,
Victims and innocents, them the worlds media call.

There are those who call themselves inoocent
Suffered under Turks scimitar and Nazi Germany too,
The Albanians helped the Turks and Germans,
They must figh ferocios to survive, as friends they have few.

There are those, unseen, who ARE innocent,
Each child of theirs in a few years will be dead,
Roma refugees - some few hundred, of Kosovska Mitrovica,
Who live and die because the UN made their camps of slagheaps of lead.

Every empty space closed over, every covered place,
everywhere that matter encompasses,
preserves the night even when day reigns,
keeping out day's playful sunny light.
And since night is overcome merely by flame or fire,
its divine qualities are driven away and nullified
even by what is lowlier than the sun,
so that every firefly breaks them much or little.
What remains open to the sun, and teems
with a thousand diverse seeds and thousand plants,
is assaulted by the fierce peasant with his plough;
but only the dark serves to plant man.
Nights are more sacred, then, than days,
as man is more worth than any other fruit.

THE GOLD COAST

CONVENTION & EXHIBITION CENTRE

COMMISSION FREE

The venue Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre will become 'The Hub' of CREATIVE AUSTRALIAN CULTURE we will see many Interstate & International visitors and buyers be present at these shows, as did the August show, these art exhibitions will grow into a phenomenal event.

I intend to make this concept grow from humble beginnings to an International Event for OUR Australian Artists, up-and-coming amateurs and professional artists alike will have the opportunity to promote themselves and have free reign to deal directly with the public.

All is advantaged by this new concept; the uniting of the professionals and amateurs under the same roof ‘AS ONE’ will bridge a gap to form strong alliances, and for the Community, huge savings to be made with direct business dealings with artists. ‘Art is for All’ and should be affordable to All.

‘Artists are a mirror of our Society’ past, present & future’, and we are expressing it and growing in Heritage & Culture, as a proud Nation.

In our 15th of August 2004 show there were 200 painters, near all had immediate sales on the day most in the $000’s, there was plenty of commissioned work post-exhibition, some artists received employment by companies & organizations, made many contacts and had sales after exhibition day. The exhibition welcomed between 7 to 9 thousand art lovers that bought and browsed.

The second show ‘SCULPTURE & PAINTINGS’ exhibition on the 14th November will host 300 painters and 200 sculptors from all over Australia, many will be local artists but we will be opening the doors to the growing interest from interstate Australian artists. The Gold Coast is now ready to become the ‘Cultural Centre for Australian Artists’, since the opening of The Convention Centre and welcome all artists from around Australia to it’s prestigious venue. BUREAUCRAT

I love that coy word, bureaucrat,
It connotates so much
Of white tea-swilling troglodytes
Whose skin is cold to touch.

The thing I cannot comprehend
About this 'homo static'
Is why the so-called bureaucrat
Is so damned autocratic!

SNOB PHILOLOGY

The other day I met two words
The first was serendipity
The other, though not quite so posh,
Was that smooth one, concinnity.

The first is royal Cingalese
(Hence polysyllability)
The second (common noun and all)
With Shakespeare has affinity

I'd like to show this knowledge off
And air it with impunity
But in the company I keep
There's never opportunity.

I mingle with the pegagogues,
Whose conceit's are so particular,
Concerning their omniscience
They're all so damned pellicular!

They're mostly school inspector types
And I confess this readily
That we, in all our innocence,
Enjoy this logodaedaly.

MINDFUL OF MUD
In the beginning, before the word, there was the mud......

Once upon millions of years ago, something or other oozed out of a primordial swamp, and very gradually became human.
Then again, maybe it was Bog (the Russian word for God) who made man in his own image out of a lump of moistened earth.

The truth is, that mud is not just your average creative medium.
I'm no potter, but I know that our ancestors were modeling mud long before teacups, oil burners or even the wheel ever occurred to us. Working as I do in this grubby and timeless occupation, I see simple profundities and regular miracles every day. Ineffably I find, there is actually a lot more to mud than meets the eye.

It's dirty, cheap, common, and very impressionable, (and dum spelt backwards..) It wasn't long before our forefathers harnessed these material vulnerabilities, unearthing billions of tons of ceramic material (designer mud) to create the pillars of civilization as we know it.

Archeological diggings turn up much more than just the pottery and house bricks. The collected histories of humankind reveal an endless trail of curious muddy footprints.

This millennium, the mud flies higher and faster than ever. Space shuttles, satellites, even car engines - contain mud that is actually squeaky clean... Your bathroom is full of it too - everything from tiles and toilets to face masks and spare teeth. Just look around the rest of the house and garden, mud is so useful and pervasive that we hardly notice.

Pigs love it too, but that's purely a physical thing. When I find myself wallowing, it's usually somewhere in the mud-like manifestations of my mind. A seemingly innocent muddle can have mind boggling consequences.
For me, sculpting is a way to physically recover something of my higher self from the pits. It's a field of mud that, on a good day, all seems perfectly clear to me.

Benny.

Handy Hint: Number 43

If the dog says hello and leaves muddy prints all over your new white pants..

Place the trousers in a kiln and fire them. Only the paw prints should remain.

*Tip. Remember to remove garments before firing.
