NEW ADU
RENEWED ADU
artsdownunder.com is in it’s second revision since it appeared on the Web
in early January 2000 after more than 18 months of gestation.
There are some new facets to this version…
Of all the aspects of ADU that have been overhauled
and made more friendly and useful...the shortcomings of
Much ADU and Visitors Book have received the most attention.
A "Re-introduction":..these two are meant to be complementary;
one favouring creative and expressive energies and aspirations,
the other for less considered, yet more direct contributions:
contact from the traveller...the learner…the seeker...
the Arts Adventurer...the Naturalist,
the Environmentalist, the Appreciator...the Concerned...
travel hints, warnings, discoveries...Epiphanies...links to other travellers...
Restaurant of the month, Soup of the day...
dialogues with kindred spirits…contact…sharings.
Thanks for following our progress and for the valuable suggestions and coding help
On-line Visitors Books are supplied for direct typing...
sitting in an Internet Café far from home and the usual...sparks of inspiration...
wish you were here.
There’s E-mail...and there’s Much ADU.

MUCH ADU is for the athletes of meaning

and all those who are in training, or serve the cause.
Possibilities:...this is a place to leave not quite so transitory notes to the world...
announcements, reviews, updates, news, catalogues, programmes,
noteable URLs, questions, critiques, essays, poems,
FEED-back, three-minute serials, obituaries...the scope is yours.
NEW…there are now 12 Tutorials, each covering an aspect of ADU…even one for the Tutorials.
These have been included to increase the value of the site as an educational and training aid.
Becoming familiar with each is becoming familiar with "Search", "Enter" and "Edit"…and "Find".
Hints: Keep each individual submission to a maximum of 100 lines (1000 words)
and prepare your submissions beforehand for copying and pasting to AD...
even very fast and accurate touch-typists make mistakes …
time wasted editing on-line is life wasted.
ADU Quicklinks is a new aspecta simple way of getting to an Artsite’s textual records quickly.
When you make a Quicklink, you are leaving ADU and entering a specific text page in an external site,
without having visited that site’s "Home" or "Index" page…by-passing the visuals.
Prepared submissions have back-up value.
If you’re typing direct to the web you are in jeopardy…
so get use to that "Back" button in your Browser.
ADU Showcase is a new aspect…a simple way of getting to an Artsite’s visual records quickly.
When you make a Showcase link, you are leaving ADU and entering a specific visual page in an external site
without having visited the sites "Home" or "Index" page.
For those managing any kind of Artsite for themselves or for others, go to the General Notes
and click on "ADU On-line Showcase" to find the loose requirements and format for the "Showcase" page
Always include a related heading or title,
so that your readers, listeners, and viewers, can find you or your subject easily.
NEW…let’s say more comprehensive and useful.
ADU’s Databases have a little more depth with the addition of a new main category…"SCREEN CULTURE".
This includes Film, Cinema, Video, E-music and sound, Festivals, Archives, Lending Libraries,
Individuals, on-line Journals, University sites, courses, finance and sponsorship for projects, and more.
Go to Browse ADU, select this category from the drop-down menu,
select Australia from the "Country" drop-down menu, select the "search for record" and browse.
These sites will also be of use to academics and students…Media Studies, Communications, IT.
Submissions to both Much ADU and the Visitors Book
don't require accurate identities…pseudonyms are welcome.
If you need to emphasise a
personal copyright or claim IP (Intellectual Property)
for your submission,
make such a statement in a bracketed note at the end of that submission
and identify yourself.
In this case, include yourself in the ADU "Arts Individual" Database
where you’ll receive your secure ID number.

Teachers, Lecturers and Tutors in the Arts and in Literacy programmes
are encouraged to direct their students to "Much ADU" and the "Visitors Book"
as outlets for expression and interaction.
The tutorials now allow classroom teachers to make use of a functioning and interactive resource…
as an aid in the library, the computer lab, in a cross-section of subjects…an introduction to the World Wide Web
and the Internet…particularly that part of it beyond games and competition.

As to content,
ADU does not make judgements on the ebb and flow of creative endeavour...
to each their own...
and will only act the censor if the intentions and foundations of the site are abused.
Take this website...may it serve you well.

ADU is about finding, understanding, and sharing. ADU invites you to show and share your own creativities… and will link to ..anything creative, anything educational, anything going somewhere... and at all levels
To make contact with ADU use E-mail

IT’S ALL ABOUT ADDRESSES

URL: the basis of all things "Web" is the Universal Resource Locator…
A Web Address is one, and within the site it leads to there are many more.
The URL for ADU’s "Home" or "Index" page is

http://www.artsdownunder.com

When you navigate around the site you are moving from URL to URL
even though it's not obvious…
...unless you keep an eye on your Browser’s Address Bar.
Any list of
Links is a list of URLS.
If you click the "back" button in your Browser, your computer re-opens the last URL you visited...
…that’s
navigation.
A Database is a gigantic learning / researching / teaching resource
navigated by way of a countless list of URLS.

The Art of Database is the art of saving time.

TUTORIALS

This 2003 version sets out to make the using of Databases less of a dry task
…for those new to computers and the search process…
…for those put-off by forms and text boxes and a lot of reading and comprehension time…
…and those examining the question "Am I too old to learn new things"?

The tutorials are structured to teach valuable time-saving Webskills…
…how to plan sessions, search efficiently, update event calendars, find what you set out to find.
ADU invites ideas for perfecting the present set of tutorials and developing new ones…

…FEEDBACK necessary…
