5-day Workshops in Drawing Human Anatomy Specimens
with anatomist A/Prof. Brian Freeman and artist Susan Dorothea White.
Registration essential. Contact: m.kwok@unsw.edu.au
The workshops are open to the public and provide a rare opportunity to draw and sketch from real anatomical specimens. Normally only university staff and students studying anatomy have access to these specimens, which are human body parts that have been professionally dissected; they are the embalmed remains of people who have generously donated their bodies to the University for study.
The workshops start the lower limb, then the upper limb, torso, and finally heads and faces. Superficial muscles are covered in detail as well as the underlying skeleton that determines the body's size and proportions. Surface muscles influence the external form of the human figure, and they vary according to type of action or response; muscles are responsible for expression.
